Tonsils and Adenoids are part of the immune system and help protect the body from disease. They “sample” bacteria and viruses that enter through the mouth or nose and sometimes get infected or cause problems by being too large. Tonsils are the two round lumps in the back of your throat. Adenoids are high in the throat behind the nose and the roof of the mouth (referred to as your soft palate). They are not visible through the mouth or nose without special instruments.

Tonsils & Adenoids | When These Tiny Defenders Become a Big Problem in Wolcott, CT

Tonsils and adenoids are small immune system tissues that help the body fight infections by trapping bacteria and viruses entering through the mouth and nose. When they become infected or enlarged, however, they can lead to problems such as sore throats, difficulty swallowing, ear pain, and recurrent infections. Enlarged tonsils or adenoids may also cause breathing issues, frequent mouth breathing, snoring, or even sleep apnea. Recognizing these symptoms is important for determining when medical evaluation or treatment may be needed. Please call (203) 578-4630 to schedule an appointment to discuss the best care plan.
