Thyroid Surgery

Parathyroid Surgery

The thyroid gland plays a critical role in regulating your metabolism, energy levels, and overall hormonal balance. When nodules, goiter, hyperthyroidism, or thyroid cancer are present, surgery may be the most effective path to treatment. Connecticut ENT performs thyroidectomy procedures, including total and partial removal of the thyroid, with a focus on precision and minimizing risk to surrounding structures including the vocal cords and parathyroid glands. Our team works closely with endocrinologists and oncologists when needed to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care.

Common reasons for thyroid surgery include:

The parathyroid glands are four tiny structures located behind the thyroid that regulate calcium levels in the body. When one or more of these glands becomes overactive, a condition known as hyperparathyroidism develops, leading to elevated calcium levels that can cause fatigue, kidney stones, bone loss, and other serious complications. Parathyroidectomy, the surgical removal of the affected gland or glands, is the only definitive cure. Connecticut ENT’s surgeons are experienced in minimally invasive parathyroid surgery, which allows for a smaller incision, faster recovery, and excellent outcomes.

Common reasons for parathyroid surgery include:

  • Primary hyperparathyroidism
  • Parathyroid adenoma
  • Elevated calcium with related symptoms such as kidney stones or osteoporosis
  • Failed medical management of hyperparathyroidism

Parotid and Salivary Gland Surgery

The parotid glands are the largest of the salivary glands, located just in front of and below each ear. When a parotid mass, chronic infection, or blockage develops, surgical treatment may be necessary. Parotidectomy, the removal of part or all of the parotid gland, requires careful technique given the proximity of the facial nerve. Connecticut ENT’s surgeons are trained in facial nerve monitoring and preservation, ensuring the highest level of safety during these procedures. We treat both benign and malignant parotid tumors as well as conditions affecting the submandibular and other salivary glands.

Common reasons for parotid and salivary gland surgery include:

  • Benign or malignant parotid tumors
  • Chronic parotitis or recurrent salivary gland infections
  • Salivary gland stones causing pain or blockage
  • Submandibular gland enlargement or masses

Neck Masses

A lump or mass in the neck should always be evaluated by a specialist. While many neck masses are benign, some can be a sign of infection, a cyst, or in some cases, cancer. At Connecticut ENT, we provide thorough diagnostic evaluation of neck masses, including physical examination, imaging, and fine needle aspiration biopsy when appropriate. When surgery is indicated, our team performs excision of lymph nodes, cysts, and other neck masses with a focus on accurate diagnosis and complete treatment.
