Adriana Beardsley is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Allergy Department at Connecticut ENT Sinus & Allergy. She earned her nursing credentials at Lincoln Technical Institute, where she trained across a range of clinical sites alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. That breadth of clinical exposure gave her hands-on experience in delivering well-rounded, patient-centered care across a variety of medical settings and specialties.

Adriana joined the practice as an allergy nurse in September 2024. In her role, she works with patients of all ages to provide allergy testing, treatment, and education, from young children beginning allergy drops to adults navigating a multi-year course of immunotherapy.

Patient education is central to Adriana’s approach. She takes time to help patients understand their test results, the rationale behind their individualized treatment plans, and what to expect throughout the course of therapy. Her goal is to ensure that each patient feels informed, supported, and confident in managing their allergies for the long term.

Allergy Injections

For patients age 7 and over, a series of injections is typically given over a five-year period. Most patients receive shots weekly for the first 6 to 12 months, every 2 weeks during the second year, every 3 weeks during the third year, and monthly thereafter. Consistency is critical to long-term success.

Most insurance plans cover injections and the medication vials, though co-pays may apply. Patients are encouraged to verify their insurance coverage prior to beginning treatment.

SLIT: Sublingual Immunotherapy (Allergy Drops)

Allergy drops work much like allergy shots, gradually desensitizing the body to allergens, but they are delivered in liquid form under the tongue and can be safely taken at home. As with injection therapy, treatment is typically given over a five-year period to ensure long-term benefits. Each formulation is customized based on the patient’s individual allergy test results.

Because of their safety profile, allergy drops can be an option for patients of all ages, including young children. Most insurance plans cover allergy testing and office visits, but do not cover the drops themselves. Many patients find that this temporary expense is worth the improvement in their health, the reduction in allergy-related costs (medications, missed work and school, and other related expenses), and the overall improvement in their quality of life. Treatment expenses can typically be reimbursed through health savings accounts or flexible spending plans.
