Vocal Cord (Fold) Paralysis refers to the inability of one or both vocal cords to move properly, resulting in difficulties with speech and breathing. It can occur when there is damage or dysfunction in the nerves that control the movement of the vocal cords. The vocal cords, also known as vocal folds, are two bands of muscle tissue located in the larynx (voice box) at the top of the windpipe (trachea). They vibrate to produce sound when air passes through them, allowing us to speak, sing, and make other vocalizations.
